A SENIOR health boss has slammed Thurrock Council’s adult social care consultation process, describing it as “appalling”.
Chief executive of the Thurrock Independent Resource Centre, John Paddick was speaking at a meeting of Health and Well-Being Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
Commenting on the consultation process, the Mr Paddick made a number of withering attacks.
He said: “This was not a proper consultation. Why on earth did you produce a 51 page document? It was simply too daunting for many people.
“I don’t think you appreciate the level of fear that has spread throughout the community.
“I also question why you put an advert in a local paper giving the date of the consultation meetings when two of the meetings had already taken place.”
Portfolio holder for adult social care, cllr Tony Fish defended the process.
He said: “I take on board what you are saying. The level of response has been encouraging with over 10% of people completing the consultation forms.
“We hope to work much more closer with the coalition in the future.”
