Firefighters tackled a fire involving 10 tonnes of wood chip last night (Friday)
Crews were called to a farm in Dunnings Lane after fire broke out in a 100 tonne pile. As firefighters dealt with the blaze, the farmer assisted with a digger pulling out the burning wood chips so that crews can damp them down.
A water shuttle was in progress.
Initially one appliance was sent to tackle the incident, but on arrival crews requested an additional pump for extra water and manpower. Then at 18:44hrs, the officer in charge requested additional water and manpower and a crew from Grays were sent to the scene.
The incident was dealt with by 19:46 hrs. The cause was accidental.
