Festive cheer without the beer

Alcohol is not necessary to enjoy the festive period and members of Thurrock Council’s road safety team were in Grays High Street on Tuesday (7 December) afternoon to prove it.

They were offering shoppers and passers-by free “mocktails” (non-alcoholic cocktails) as well as alcohol free wine, beer and even mulled wine — which was doubly welcome on a freezing day.

Under the banner Festive cheer without the beer, the team had put together three Christmas-related mocktails.

The Snowman Blitz is made up of 75ml of colada mix or coconut milk, 75ml of orange juice and 50m of pineapple juice.

Jingle Bells on the rocks put 75ml of light cranberry juice, 100m of diet lemonade and slice fruit to garnish together.

And Red Berry Fizz was 100m cranberry juice, 100ml orange juice and a dash of grenadine poured over ice.

Coca Cola has joined forces with the the Department for Transport to launch the 2010 designated driver campaign.

Designated drivers are rewarded with a buy-one-get-one-free on Coca- Cola and diet Coke.

Pubs participating in Thurrock are The White Hart, Grays; The World’s End, Tilbury; and Aveley Workingmen’s Club.
