COUNCILLORS at the planning committee meeting expressed anger and dismay at the proposals to build 350 homes on green belt land in Butts Lane, Stanford-le-Hope.
The council only have consultation response powers in respect of proposals over 1 hectare in size. Permission or otherwise is given by the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation (DC) but councillors let the soon to be abolished quango exactly how they felt.
Stanford councillor Phil Anderson said: “This proposals cuts huge swathes through the green belt. There were three proposals put forward by the Local Development Framework (LDF) that would see just over 300 homes built in total.
“This plan sees over 350 in one go.”
The council have advised the DC that the development would represent inappropriate development on the Green Belt.
Hundred of residents attended a meeting in September in which they expressed their fears about the development. Many also attended the planning meeting.
YourThurrock spoke to the chair of the Stanford forum about where the residents campaign goes from here.
