NEARLY two weeks after the Christmas Day fire that swept through Albany Heights in Grays, families are still waiting to return to their homes.
The fire took place at just before midnight. Many of the flats were evacuated, leaving families, including a heavily pregnant Natalie Hobbs and her young daughter homeless.
Natalie said: “The whole thing has been a nightmare. My daughter was terrified when the fire broke out. So was I but I had to think of the her and my unborn baby.
“We have now been out of the flat for nearly two weeks. I hope the idiots who did this are proud of themselves.”
Other residents are still deciding whether to return to their flats which were the subject of a fire back in 2008.
Some of the homes are owned by Swan Housing Association. A spokesperson said: “We would hope to have our residents back in their homes by tomorrow.” (Friday).
Essex police and Essex fire service are still investigating the blaze.
