AVELEY’S renaissance continues as they brought to an end a ten-match unbeaten for Horsham with a 1-0 victory at Mill Field.

Despite the heavy pitch and long grass, it was the pace of the Aveley attackers that caused a headache for Horsham. Had they had their radar on properly, it could have been even better for the Millermen.

In the first half, Aveley found chances hard to come by. Infact, their first clear cut chance came after 22 minutes when Junior Dadson broke free from two defenders and unleashed a rasping shot that Hornet’s keeper Mark Zawadski dod well to push away for a corner.

Horsham had their fair share of chances. On the half hour, Anthony Storey pumped a free-kick into the box, which Aveley keeper McCartney missed but striker Ben Andrew’s volley sailed high over the crossbar.

Sherwin Stanley coming on at half time and made an immediate impact causing mayhem in the Horsham defence but it was Orlando Smith who scored the winning goal as he fired a low, hard shot into the bottom left hand corner of the Horsham net.

Both Stanley and Dadson went close again but it was enough for the Millermen to grab the three points and ease relegation fears for now.

Aveley play host to high-flying Lowestoft Town on Monday. Kick-off: 7.45pm.
