STAFF and students at William Edwards school in Stifford Clays were shuttle-cock-a-hoop after planning approval was granted for a badminton performance centre at the sports college.
At a meeting of the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation’s (DC) planning committee yesterday (Monday), committee members were satisfied that there had been a satisfactory response to the suggested conditions discussed at the meeting in December.
In November, committee members had referred to the centre’s “look” as vile and ugly.
Speaking for the application, headteacher, John King OBE detailed the variations in frontage that would be made. He also detailed why the site specified was the only credible one in the plans.
Mr King had to also stress that the alternatives did not include places other than the site.
Funding for the badminton centre which will have eight state of the art courts has been possible with £250,000 from Badminton England.
