Sickening attack on elderly woman in Chadwell

Police are appealing for information after a robbery that left a woman in her 80s hospitalised.

At 5.30pm on Monday, January 17, three men knocked at the victim’s door in Stour Road, Chadwell St Mary. As she opened the door, a man out his foot in the door whilst another entered, knocking the victim over. It is unknown at this time what has been stolen, but police believe they may have taken her purse.

DI Neil Barrett, who heads the Thurrock CID target team, said: “This is a horrific attack on an elderly lady, who hit her head as she fell. At the moment, she is being kept under observation at hospital.

“It really does take callous thieves to do this to someone, and I am urging anyone that was in the area that saw these three, or knows who did this, to come forward to police. Thankfully this type of robbery is quite rare in this area, and we have been carrying out house to house enquiries and reviewing CCTV to see if it will give us any clues.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Ds Tony Kantaris a the Thurrock CID target team on 0300 333 4444 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
