Police probe begins after fire at Whitehall Lane tyre warehouse

Firefighters were called to a fire at a tyre warehouse in Whitehall Lane, Grays.

Nine fire engines were called to the warehouse at just over midnight to tackle the blaze.

The fire was extinguished three hours later. Crews used twelve sets of breathing apparatus and used five main jets and three hose reels to extinguish the fire.

By 7am, two fire appliances remain at the incident damping down. The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage, ECFRS and the police will carry out an investigation.

If this is the trye place that I think it is, at the bottom of Whitehall Lane by Dock Road, then I am supprised that this has only just happened, the used tyres are regularly just stacked outside the main entrance on the street, they are not held securely and anybody could gain access to the tryes.

    How TBC allowed the storage of flamable materials outside of the business address on the pavement does not bear thinking about, then again TBC have been laxed about a lot of things.

  2. It’s the tyre place at the bottom of East Thurrock Road formally a car valeting place. The tyre place hasn’t been there that long, probably less than a year.
