Crime mapping reveals Thurrock hotspots

A POLICE INTELLIGENCE website has revealed the crimes that occurred around the country in December 2010. Thurrock residents can enter their postcode and obtain general information regarding the crimes.

The statistics have revealed that of the 191,000 streets in England and Wales, Lakeside had the fifth highest number of crimes in the country with 143. Having said that, it is difficult to find a comparison as most other large retail areas such as Bluewater do not appear on the map. Indeed, five crimes a day over the Christmas period may not actually be that bad.

However the residents that may need to be concerned are those who live on Weston Avenue in West Thurrock which had a crime every day in December, while other hotspots are: Derry Avenue with 16; Bexhill Drive with 11 and Marisco Drive with 12.

Could this affect house prices? Russell Quirk of emoov.co.uk doesn’t think so.

Russell said: “I would take this with a huge pinch of salt. You have to factor a lot: night-time economy may be one. The fact that a shopkeeper may have called the police re nuisance youths on two occasions doesn’t make it a crime-wave.”
