SLOWLY but surely, Grays Athletic season is coming together. The league can be deceptive. To some, Grays may languish in 13th place but more importantly they are only seven points off the play off positions. They are also in play-off form. They may not win every game between now and the end of the season but the fact that a twenty point gap has now been reduced to seven is of huge importance.
Grays momentum has been down to a number of factors, not least of which is a settled side. Alex Osbourn now looks on fire. Simon Thomas continues to be slammed by some quarters but some should go to the sublime pass he made to Osbourn on Saturday and perhaps think again.
John Docker and Steven Demetriou brought a lot to the game out on the flanks on Saturday. There does seem to be a question mark about the middle. This reporter would prefer to see Docker pulling the strings from the middle.
Grays travel to Cheshunt tonight who pulled off the shock of the season by beating Needham Market 2-0 on Saturday. This may be a good time to play them as that is a high that you may well come down from.
Julian Dicks believes that unlike previous seasons, there are no runaway leaders in this league. It is all going to be a matter of plugging away.
