MP backs Help for Heroes

STEPHEN Metcalfe, Member of Parliament for South Basildon and East Thurrock, together with Parliamentary colleague Eleanor Laing MP, hosted a dinner in aid of Help for Heroes.  The event was in recognition of a generous £14,000 donation to Help for Heroes made by an East London businessman at a recent Help for Heroes Day.

Stephen said: “Our armed forces are the best in the world; their professionalism and commitment are second to none. They do a difficult and challenging job in volatile parts of the world in an attempt to create world stability. I am aware that there are a significant number of serving and retired forces personnel in my constituency and Help for Heroes does a great job, along with many other service charities, in supporting them and their families.“

“By hosting the dinner I am pleased that we were able to raise much needed funds for H4H and to get the politicians and service personnel talking. I was delighted that Liam Fox was able to join us and was so supportive of our troops whether, active, injured or retired.”

One of the services Help for Heroes offers is to help members of the Armed Forces that have been injured in the line of duty – either in action or in training – with their Quick Reaction Fund (QRF) which is available for a range of issues. They may need car adaptations or a handbike to keep fit while living with a injury. The fund is available for almost anything that will make the lives of injured soldiers easier for both them and their families. Similarly, Help for Heroes helps relatives whose lives have been affected by a loved one’s injury. Funds are administered within 72 hours of the grant application through the Services’ own charities.
