GRAYS ATHLETIC re-inforced their play off credentials with a convincing 3-0 win against Romford marked out by a fine brace from Simon Thomas.

Simon Thomas was in the thick of the action from the start.  He is very much a “marmite” player but he never stopped looking for the ball all afternoon.

A chance came in the first minute but he slipped while he should have done better with a loose ball in the 7th minute.

Hesitation in the Grays defence gave the Romford attack a chance but they repaid the compliment and they had another chance a few minutes later when Danny Bunce failed to respond to a Stephen Northwood call, nearly causing chaos.

Grays were getting plenty of supply but there were too many stray balls

Grays could have gone behind in the 16th minute but Danny Bunce headed  off the line.

While at the other end, good work by Duran Reynolds released Danny Morgan who earned a corner.

Grays broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute through an exquiste piece of play: Danny Morgan crossed from the right and Thomas at the far post struck the ball with the outside of his right foot and into the net.

Romford couldnt really get going with a number of decisions going against them

Gray should have made it two when again Morgan skinned Paul Kavanagh but Thomas couldn’t connect with the pass.

Daniel Smith and Jared Small on at half time for Eljay Worrall and Danny Morgan.

There was a scrappy start to second half as Grays found themselves defending but they rarely looked troubled.

In the 53rd minute,  Jared Small produced a fine turn and shot which was kicked off line by keeper Adam Raffs.

Simon Thomas made it two in the 58th minute. Docker spread it to Daniel Smith who crossed into the area. Romford failed to clear and from six yards, Thomas banged the ball into the net.

Grays safely navigated the rest of the game to once again re-inforce that they are genuine play-off contenders.

Right or wrong, Romford had let the referee get to them while Simon Thomas went searching for his third and could have got it in the final minute with a free header but Marvin Samuel put the icing on the cake with a fine glancing header in the 94th minute.
