U3A hold tenth AGM

THE Thurrock branch of the U3A held its well-attended tenth AGM at the Civic Hall, Grays.

Chairman Maggie Whitbread reported on a very successful year with over 40 different groups meeting on a regular basis, including three new groups – ballroom dancing, play reading and a further craft group.

She congratulated two members who had gained the OCR qualification in computing.

Three new members of the committee were introduced. Members who had passed away during the year were remembered. The speaker was Dave Moore, a chimney sweep, telling some of the amusing stories about his career and some of the less funny stories of how, in former days, children as young as five were made to climb up the chimneys.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday, February 23.
