PLANS to build 95 homes on the former home of Grays Athletic FC have been rejected by Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation’s planning committee.
The scheme, on the club’s former ‘New Rec’ home at Bridge Road which was vacated by the club last year, consists of 65 apartments and 30 houses, but the Developers, Weston Homes, have been told to come up with a more attractive design.
Committee member, Sunny Crouch OBE told the developers: “I see you are called Landmark Planning. Well may I suggest that you go away and do exactly that.”
Officers had recommended approval of the application and the committee agreed there were no valid reasons to object to residential development on the site, but they wanted a more attractive design to be put in place.
