Thurrock Writer’s Circle meets fortnightly at The Hugh Delargy Close Hall at Chadwell St Mary . They have speakers and competitions, discussions on our stories, poems, novels, or articles they have written.
For the past two years they have been in the Arts Council Marquee at the Orsett Show reading a variety of poems and stories.
Spokesperson Joy Ridgewell spoke about the group.
She said: “The anthologies they have produced sold well. Several of our group have had work published and we have had winners in the National Association of Writer’s Group competitions and also Age Concern annual competition.
“Each year there is an in-house competition and also a social meal out. We have visited Brentwood Writer’s Circle for their speaker’s day and the Thameside Theatre to support the other groups in the Arts Council.
“We are not a teaching class but everyone agrees with the support of our members and with the inspiration of our speakers we have all improved tremendously from when we each joined”.
