Former Deputy Mayor stands down

FORMER Deputy Mayor, cllr Eddie Hardiman has announced that he will not be contesting his Stanford-le-Hope seat on May 5th this year.

Speaking to YT, cllr Hardiman said that it was time to give a younger person a chance in the ward.

He said: “The group wanted me to stay on and I have been deluged with correspondence urging me not to quit but I felt the time was right.”

YT understands that the up and coming Shane Hebb will be contesting the seat.

Cllr Hardiman refuted any suggestions that his decision had anything to do with the ‘Winegate” controversy in November which made national headlines and forced him to resign as deputy mayor.

Cllr Hardiman will be remembered for his whole hearted enthusiasm as a councillor; his hard-working approach to his ward duties and his larger than life personality.

With his many other duties, we are sure to still see Eddie take an active part in the borough.
