THE FOUR CHAFFORD Hundred councillors have backed a petition that objects to the proposal to remove the weight limit from Devonshire Road.
It reads: “We the residents and councillors of Chafford Hundred object to the proposal to remove the weight limit from Devonshire Road.
The weight limit has only been in place for less than 2 years and it was put in place to protect residents lives and properties.
We think the proposal is a waste of tax payers money as a full consultation about this was undertaken 2 years ago before the weight limit was installed.
The Council has not explained the rationale behind this new consultation so soon after the previous one. The Council is yet to produce any police stats or traffic delay figures to evidence the reason for the new consultation.
It therefore leads to one conclusion, that the aim is politically driven and we strongly object to tax payers money being wasted for political gain.
We object to the proposal and to the absolute waste of tax payers money.
If you want to object to the proposal please sign the petition at: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/devonshire_road/

this sounds typical NIMBY to me.
The road was originaly part of a ring road system and was built to take lorries up to the roundabout and now it is going to be re instated as it was originaly built for.
Like them or loath them lorries are a vital part of our society and what makes this even more laughable is all the petrol tankers coming from askew farm road are expected to go along london road where there as plenty of houses that are directly facing the road with only small gardens seperating them from the main road yet devonshire road has NO houses that directly face the road and even the nearest ones have a much bigger space than any of the ones along london road so safety is not the issue here it’s just NIMBYISM.

I would have liked to post this message under the story “Gerry Hague tells John Kent ‘Your’e in office but not in power!'” but for some reason that page will not allow me to make a comment.
This is a direct question for the editor:
Is Your Thurrock a news service or is it just a mouthpiece of the local conservative party?
This article appears, particularly with the words in bold font, to be nothing more than a promotion of the local Conservative Party line. What is it doing on here without any context or balancing comment. It is either shoddy journalism or a political advertisement. Surely, even editorial commentary would generally show a little more objectivity.
What standards do you set yourself in terms of news reporting?
i completely agree with comments by mgrithiths91.
As a tanker driver i find it absolutely ludicrous that to get to the fuel depot at the bottom of devonshire road we have to go the length of london road from Harris’s roundabout passing many houses. Devonshire road was originally built to relieve this and i find it hard to believe we cant use it giving it passes far fewer propeties. Of course it would save us HGV drivers some time but come on counillors, think logically, think about all the local residents, not just yourselves that live in devonshire road.
