Romford 0 v 3 Tilbury
THE MANAGER with the toughest assignment this year has been Dockers boss Paul Vaughan.
This is Paul’s rookie year. Many expected that with his inexperience married to problems on and off the park that the Dockers would end up with a one way ticket to the Essex senior league.
But instead, week in, week out, Tilbury have grafted away. Sometimes the games haven’t gone for them but they have never been outclassed and never been outfought.
The victory against Grays in January was a real turing point for Paul and his team but Saturday’s victory away against Romford confirmed to Paul and the fans that he can build a formidable team down at Chadfields.
He said: “This is all taking time. This season has been about consolidation and with a view to next year. Results like this confirm that we are going in the right direction.”
Dockers found themselves up within two minutes with a Harry Cook strike. A Ben Turner own goal then gave them a 2-0 lead at half time.
Paul said: “If you can stop Elbert and Smith up front then you have gone half way to beating Romford. However, I am really pleased with the way the lads applied themselves.”
Romford’s season seems to have run out of steam and once Jack Barry was sent off for two yellow cards, the game was over. Steve Good put the game beyind doubt just before the end.
Tilbury go on to play rivals East Thurrock tomorrow night at 7.45pm at the Rookery Hill.
