At our March meeting, we were delighted to welcome visitor Susan Johnson from Linford and even more delighted to welcome Fay Sherwood as a new member! We all admired the new village hall stage curtains and matching pelmet – very smart.
On display were Bulphan memories: documents, photos, maps, our 3 WI scrapbooks – members had brought along all manner of things. As well as gaining points towards winning our competition cup by bringing something relevant along, some deserving members received extra points. For example, for living in Bulphan the longest (Marian Blackburn – over 80 years); Marian was born in the family home in Pear Tree Lane, but the midwife couldn’t get there. An aunt helped with the birth, and announced that it was a boy! Janet Compton gained points by being born furthest away, in the British Military Hospital, Nicosia, Cyprus. In fact, she and her brother were the first ever surviving twins to have been born there. Carol Davis gained points by travelling the furthest to attend meetings each month: almost 20 miles, from South Woodham Ferrers – a 40-mile round trip, twice a month as Carol is also on the committee.
Our yoga course is proving very popular, with 24 ladies of all ages on the register – led by our local expert, Karen de Villiers, it is deceptively gentle and calming, yet provides a very good workout.
We are all getting excited about our Hawaiian Party next month, and hoping the weather has warmed up a bit, so we won’t be too chilly in our grass skirts. Visitors are welcome to join us, but as there will be an exotic buffet and live entertainment, the charge will be £6 for non-members. For details of anything to do with Bulphan WI, ‘phone Monica on 01375 891002 or visit bulphanwi.weebly.com. Visitors are always welcome and the first visit is free (£3 thereafter). Copies of our programme are available in Bulphan Post Office Stores.
