Year 7 William Edwards make their mark at Thurrock rugby

THURROCK RFC and William Edwards have always had strong school-club links and with nearly half of the current 1st team ex William Edwards boys it was a fitting occasion last Saturday after the sponsors buffet, that the Year 7 William Edwards school team played a curtain raiser to the 1st team.

William Edwards hosted Robert Clack school team who have always had a good tradition of succesful rugby teams.

Before the game a number of first team players warmed up the boys with Stefan North and Ben Timson taking a scrummaging session and Daryl Worcester, Ben Stanley, Nat Farrel and Jake Bedding taking the backs.

There was over 100 people watching and supporting the boys from the start.

The game started and William Edwards scored a quick try through superstar Ben Northfield. Clack hit back with three quick tries which put William Edwards on the back foot for a while.

After half time William Edwards and Clack both exchanged blows with eachother with high standard physical rugby played by both teams. The game could have gone either way but Northfields conversions sealed the result for William Edwards winning 35-29.

After the game the 1st team stopped their warm up they had a picture taken with the boys.

This was such a fantastic day for all involved. The club was buzzing and the 1st team produced their best performance of the year against Old Colfians after.

William Edwards school boys have reached the regional final of the emerging schools competition in two weeks time. They play against the best other teams in the South East of England.

The school boys play against Campion School at 1pm on Saturday 9th April before the 1st team game vs Sidcup.
