Bill Robinson reports…………

Thurrock picked up three vital points with second half goals from Jamie Richards and Jake Lee, with St Albans regaining their ten point deduction for breach of rules, perhaps only temporarily, but the effect was to take them above Thurrock and drop the fleet into the relegation zone.

Therefore the importance of this game may only come to light over the next few weeks as both clubs fight for survival.

It was another goalless first half for Thurrock, they dominated the possession, but could not convert the pressure into real goal chances.

Danny Hockton hustled and troubled the City back four, just on the half hour he had a free header that went straight into the keepers arms, he was supported by the attacking midfielders, but the only time the keeper looked to be in trouble was when Reece Harris free kick had to be tipped over the bar.

HT 0-0

Thurrock broke the deadlock early in the second half when Jamie Richards converted a penalty on 50 mins. Danny Hockton had put Joao Carlos through who was then brought down inside the box.

Thurrock looked good for their lead and continued to push on looking to secure the win.

In the last 15 minutes St Albans exerted some pressure on the Thurrock defence as they started to defend deeper to persevere their lead.

With virtually the last kick of the game Jake Lee followed up from his own shot after the keeper failed to hold on to it and side footed the ball into the net.

Thurrock’s first win in fourteen games as secured and now they go to Bromley on Tuesday night hoping to repeat the performance.
