Aveley 1 v 2 Maidstone

AVELEY’S Ryman Premier survival hopes took a turn for the worse with this home defeat.

Maidstone took the lead on 19 minutes when Michael Philips’ quick free kick caught the Aveley defence sleeping and 18-year-old Alex Flisher netted his first senior goal.

Millers thought they had equalised a couple of minutes later but Ryan Salmons’ effort was disallowed.

Aveley were looking sharp up front but vulnerable at the back and in the end were probably grateful to go in at half time just one goal down.

The second half was an especially poor affair but Aveley hopes lifted when they got an undeserved equaliser 15 minutes from the end when Junior Dadson rounded the goalkeeper and slotted into an empty net.

Aveley would only be level for five minutes though as Maidstone sub Colin Richmond played an incisive through ball to Dan Stubbs who held his run well and shot low past Dave McCartney.

Romayne Marsh-Brown was sent off in the closing stages but Millers had little time to profit from their extra man and they dropped to 20th.
