The Melody Lingers On

Hot on the heels of a string of Rogers & Hammerstein melodies in their recent hit musical OKLAHOMA, come a whole new list of hits from Irving Berlin in Thurrock Operatic Society’s next musical outing at the Thameside Theatre, Grays. The group are about to audition for their next show: THE MELODY LINGERS ON which is a delightful story telling piece of musical theatre which introduced us to the music of Irving Berlin. Songs like Blue Skies, White Christmas are just two of over 40 songs which trip their way off the stage in this all singing, all dancing masterpiece.

TOPS have adopted an open audition policy which means that anyone can go along and audition to be in the show and with Melody, Show Director Ann Sullivan is looking for some great voices to portray the main characters in the show. Five men and five women lead the ensemble of singers and dancers through the magical songs which made Irving Berlin one of the world’s best and most prolific song writers. Principals audition on their own and an audition time can be arranged by contacting Ann Sullivan. Dancers audition in a block and they need to be able to tap dance; some need to be able to waltz, others ballet (en pointe) and there’s even some Charleston in there too.

TOPS are looking for more men to join the Chorus and would suit choral or choir members as well as musical theatre performers as the emphasis is on the singing for the Ensemble pieces. No need to audition, just contact Ann Sullivan as detailed below.

MELODY LINGERS ON will run for just two performances on Sunday 24th July and auditions for principals and dancers are taking place this Thursday 31st March at the United Reformed Church in Bradliegh Avenue, Grays. Anyone interested in auditioning should contact Ann Sullivan on (01376) 567677 or email

An Information Pack can be downloaded from but if you have any further queries, just contact Ann and she’ll be pleased to help.
