Eastleigh 3 Thurrock1
Blue Square Bet South
Bill Robinson reports from the Silverlake…….
A disappointing result for Thurrock keeping them far too close to the relegation zone for comfort, with only four games remaining three of which are against teams in the top five.
The first half was evenly matched just with Eastleigh taking their chances that were gifted to them from set pieces.
Thurrock should have opened the scoring on 28 minutes, Joao Carlos took the ball from defence to attack where he found Dean Cracknell just outside the home side’s box, Cracknell slotted a perfect ball through to Lee Boylan who was one on one with Keeper Jason Matthews, but Matthews reacted quickly to save at Boylan’s feet.
Four minutes later Thurrock found themselves two down, the first from Chris Holland, who was in space when a free kick was given away, the ball went deep to the far post for Holland to finish off.
Then a similar goal once again deep to the far post and onto the head of Tom Jordon who headed the ball back across goal over keeper Joe Woolley for number two.
The second half Thurrock looked the better side and Danny Hockton came close on 50 minutes when he just failed to get a better contact with the ball and saw his header go wide.
Jamie Slabber also came close to adding to Eastleigh’s tally when his shot thumped against the cross bar.
But it was Thurrock who scored next on 57 minutes when Dean Cracknell put Lee Boylan through in the box, he took advantage of space, turned his marker and his shot beat the diving Matthews.
Thurrock tried but could not breach the home side again and on 86 minutes Chris Bush was sent off for a second yellow card and just as we were entering added time Tony Taggart completed the win for Eastleigh by adding a third.
