PALMER’S College staff member, Kathy Hayes, will celebrate turning 60 this year by competing in the London Marathon on Sunday.
Sunday will be Kathy’s eighth London Marathon having first completed the course in 1989 in an impressive time of 3 hours and 30 minutes.
Kathy won’t be the only Palmer’s member of staff to attempt the gruelling run as Ritchie Naylor, one of the College’s Sports Teachers, will also be taking part. This is Ritchie’s second marathon and he hopes with cross the finish line within 4 hours and 45 minutes.
He said: “I’ll be running the London Marathon in aid of Diabetes UK. I got a place through the ballot so didn’t need to run for a charity, but as Diabetes has affected the lives of close family members, I decided to raise money for this fantastic charity.”
Mark Vinall, Principal, commented: “I’m incredibly impressed with Kathy and Ritchie’s commitment to training for the London Marathon. I wish them the best of luck for Sunday.”
