Belhus beat Orsett in first local derby of the season

Belhus openers Joe Joyce and Chris Didd dominated this Essex Sunday League derby as Orsett were completely outplayed at North Stifford. Joyce struck twelve boundaries in a magnificent knock of 110 while Didd hit three sixes and ten fours in an innings of 87 as these two put on 152 for the first wicket. Adding support were Paul Bennett with 16 and Ryan Wells, who was unbeaten at the completion of 40 overs with 31 not out.

After tea, eight Orsett batsmen contributed just 20 runs between them, with only Scott Douglas with 37 and Shahid Khan with 46 runs making any significant runs for the visitors.

For Belhus, all five bowlers employed each took two wickets. Jonathan Gordon took 2-29, Ricki Ellis bagged 2-13 from seven impressive overs which included two maidens, Billy Winter claimed 2-23, Paul Bennett finished with 2-17 while Belhus debutant and Essex County second eleven player Theeban Tavarasa, who is expected to play regularly for the North Stifford-based club on Sundays this year if not selected by the County, yielded 2-35. Tavarasa has already played one first class match, which was back in his university days against Essex for Cambridge UCCE at Fenner’s in May 2007.
