THE FUTURE of the Gravesend to Tilbury ferry has been secured for the next two years after the contract for this important local service was renewed.
The ferry runs half hourly between 5.40am and 7.15pm from Monday to Saturday, excluding Bank Holidays.
The service is jointly funded by Kent County Council and Thurrock Council.
Thurrock Council Leader, Cllr John Kent, added: “We fought to find the funding for the ferry a year ago and were determined that this vital and historic link between Tilbury and Gravesend is maintained.”
And Kent County Council cabinet member for Environment, Highways and Waste Bryan Sweetland added: “This is very good news for local people, many of whom rely on the ferry to travel between Kent and Essex. It also helps to attract visitors from the cruise ships to Gravesend Town centre and is one way of beating the inevitable queues at the Dartford Crossing.”
