THE FIRE SERVICE did, after they were called to Cely Woods, Romford Road, Aveley when they were called to assist in the rescue of two small dogs trapped down a rabbit hole.

Working with the advice of a park ranger, crews dug in to free the animals while taking care not to disturb any badger setts.

The dogs – one a Jack Russell – were freed by 19:45 hrs and left in the care of their owner.
