LAST season was a very odd season for Thurrock. It ended with relegation but most of the season was dominated by who exactly was in charge?
Hakan Heyrettin left after feeling the club never really backed him once they got to second in the Conference South in March 2010. Greg Lincoln took over but his reign was over-shadowed by the constant pressure of former Braintree manager Robbie Garvey in the Director’s box.
Garvey eventually joined the management team when Glenn Gordon took over the side but still fans and reporters alike and perhaps the players were still uncertain as to who was in charge and at times that was reflected in the way they played. They were relegated to the Ryman Premier.
It has now been announced that Robbie is taking over as manager.
The announcement will give impetus to Thurrock’s campaign to get back into the Conference South as soon as possible.
There is of course speculation as to whether Thurrock will be reprieved but in the meantime, Robbie and the team will spend the summer building a squad that will be competitive in either league.
YT hopes to speak to Robbie, later in the week.
