Metcalfe wants to get tough on Tube strikers

South Basildon and East Thurrock MP Stephen Metcalfe rose on the floor of the House to ask the Secretary of State for Transport if she will bring forward proposals to prevent unplanned industrial action on London Underground.

Theresa Villiers (Minister of State (Rail and Aviation), Transport; Chipping Barnet, Conservative) replied:

“Existing legislation already requires trade unions contemplating industrial action to ballot their membership and give due notice to the employer.

“Government encourages both London Underground (LU) and the trade unions representing LU employees to resolve current disputes as quickly as possible through negotiation”.

  1. Never mind all that …..what about all those out here dealing with ASB you never got to grips with….If you had not noticed we dont have tubes here…..but we have crime and ASB in amounts you would not believe!!!!….Anyone using tubes will be more upset at those issues…..

  2. Ah so the hidden agenda is afoot, maybe the master plan is to extend the District line into Grays and we all become the London Borough of Thurrock….

Why should the government put legislation in place to stop unplanned industrial action, every worker has the freedom and right to down tools, once you take this away then you might as well become a comunist state
