Pupils at Lansdowne Primary School in Tilbury had a VIP visitor on Friday (24 June).
Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Charlie Curtis, was at the Lansdowne Road school for its regular end-of-week assembly and to present awards to the children.
Cllr Curtis said: “The young people were well behaved throughout and it was a pleasure to present the trophies, medals and certificates.
“I was also taken on a short tour of the school by the head, Richard Epps, not only visiting some of the classes, but also looking over the brand new renovations.
“Lansdowne sometimes takes a bit of a hit from the media, but it is wrong to tar all the pupils and the school as a whole with the same brush.
“I handed out prizes for sporting achievements at the District Games, for merits won by pupils showing enthusiasm in learning at school and for excellent attendance records. Well done to each and every one of them.”
Mr Epps added: “In my ten months at Lansdowne we have created a positive atmosphere where the children are keen to learn.
“The new build and renovations at the school are adding to that growing confidence and I am really looking forward to my second year here.”
