GABLE HALL dominated the finals of the Thurrock schools cricket champs held at Stanford-le-Hope cricket ground on Thursday.
In a fierce contest between their year 9 and 10 teams in the senior final, the year 10 team, led by captain Sam Chilvers, beat the year 9 team, led by Ben Kent by a mere 7 runs. In a game that ebbed and flowed the year 10 team were deserved victors with thanks to Man of the Match Matthew Slaughter whose bowling ripped through the heart of the year 9 batting line up.
In the Year 7/8 final Gable Hall played against an impressive St Cleres team. Captain Jono Edwards won the toss and elected to bowl first. As St Cleres started to pile on the runs, skipper Edwards, bowled a magnificent spell taking four St Cleres wickets restricting them to a score of 100.
In the chase, Gable Hall never looked in any danger of keeping up with the run rate and in the end won by 4 wickets in the last over. A very special mention must go to opening Batsman and Man of the Match Thomas Willats who carried his bat through the innings showing amazing skill, concentration and application to see his team home with a very impressive 43 not out.
A fab day was had by all who were in attendance and special thanks goes to Stanford Le Hope CC for accommodating us for the afternoon and letting us use their excellent facility.
