When you’re blue and you don’t know where to go-try the Thameside

For music lovers there’s a rare opportunity to enjoy the music of Irving Berlin at the Thameside later this month when Thurrock Operatic Society return to the Thameside Theatre with THE MELODY LINGERS ON. If the songs White Christmas, Putting on The Ritz, There’s No Business Like Show Business, Blue Skies have a familiar ring to them then you’ll be delighted to know that they are all part of the 42 songs included in this biopic musical which tells the life story of one of Americas best loved composers.

Thurrock Operatic Society brought audience to their feet in applause and critical acclaim when they staged OKLAHOMA in March and breaking from the traditional summer concert in July the group have opted to stage another musical. If planning their next show, Lionel Bart’s OLIVER which they stage in March next year isn’t enough to be getting on with, the whole team at TOPS decided to fit in another spectacular show at the Thameside Theatre this summer.
THE MELODY LINGERS ON is a MUSICAL STORY TELLING OF THE LIFE OF Irving Berlin and contains forty two of the prolific song writers best loved songs. As the songs melodically flow through the years of his life, a narrative tells the story of the Jewish Immigrant who joined the writers on Tin Pan Alley and rose to become one of the world’s best loved composers. Not only writing songs for stage and film, but creating legendary signatures for the likes of such performers as, Al Jolson and Ethel Merman.

Thurrock’s Operatic, under the artistic direction of Ann Sullivan bring together the songs, the dance routines and over 100 costumes to tell this tale for a one day pit stop performances at the Thameside on Sunday 24th July. With local singers taking to the stage alongside a line up of experienced dancers there’s a mix of ballads, tap dance routines, romantic love songs, and comic duets that Irving Berlin was worldly know for. Songs from the classic musical Annie Get Your Guns, as well as songs perforemed by the legendary Al Jolson mingle with the sparked colour of glitz and glamorous costumes.

So if you love a good toe tapping all singing all dancing musical, colour, sparkle, great music and some excellent singing, book a date in your diary now. Sunday 24th July at the Thameside theatre with a matinee performance T 3.00 pm and an evening performance at 7.00 pm
