SHOPPERS at Lakeside were stopped in their tracks at 11am today when ‘Boris Johnson’ dancers broke out into a spontaneous routine as part of a synchronised flash mob across nine of the UK’s top shopping centres. The flash mob dancers wore classic Boris Johnson masks and the bespoke choreographed routine was set to a specially created urban hip-hop track.
“Boris Johnson is such a nationally well know character for all sorts of reasons and we thought it would be a fantastic way of giving our shoppers a fun surprise when they were least expecting it,” said Kylie Minor, Acting Marketing Manager, Lakeside. “Dance is hugely popular in the UK at the moment and this was a light-hearted way of giving people the opportunity to watch a live performance.”
Capital Shopping Centres – who run 14 UK shopping destinations – were chosen as the ideal venues to bring this fantastic flash mob with a difference to life. The routine was choreographed by industry expert Julie Kavanagh, who has created flash mob-style events for the likes of Ford, Nike and Xbox. And this attention-grabbing scene at Lakeside certainly drew in the crowds as the ‘Borises’ got to their feet to strike a pose, and some shoppers couldn’t resist joining in!
