Bill Robinson reports from Barrows Farm…
A game that promised a lot but failed to explode until the last three minutes, Thurrock playing their last pre season game where hoping to field a full first team squad, but once again injuries prevented manager Robbie Garvey from seeing what he hoped would be a successful team that he has built over the summer.
Harlow started bright and should have taken the lead in the tenth minute when Max Mitchell collected a pass from ex Thurrock player Lee Roache but his shot went high over the bar.
Mitchell only waited another sixty seconds before he did open the scoring once again finding space in the Thurrock box his left footed shot was less than perfectly hit but the ball bobbled wide of keeper Tom Forecast and into the far corner of the net.
Harlow kept the lead until the second half, both sides created chances but both defences were on top of their game and the strikers found little room to test either keeper.
With only minutes remaining Thurrock pushed forward with more vigour and started to look dangerous. James White saw his splendid header fly past the upright with the keeper stranded from a Glenn Poole corner.
With less that a minute on the clock sub Reece Morgan ran onto a headed clearances and managed to head over the defence and keeper and saw the ball drop into the net to level the scores.
Before Thurrock could regroup and enjoy the moment Harlow went back in front, as the ball came over from the right Donny Barnard spectacularly hit the ball over his shoulder with his back to the goal and the ball flew into the top of the net.
Straight from the restart Thurrock went into an attack and another sub Jamie Richards was on the edge of the box and lobbed the keeper to once again level the scores.
This time the referee beat all and brought the game to an end, as he blew his final whistle it left the Thurrock management just two more training days to get a side together that will be able to deal with new comers Salisbury City next Saturday in the opening game of the season.
