Essex Police dispel rumours: No Rioting in Thurrock or Essex

Essex Police would like to dispel a number of fictitious and malicious rumours which are circulating this evening, particularly on social networking sites.

“We would like to inform residents of Essex there is no rioting in the county akin to what has been seen on the news as happening in parts of London.

We understand how distressing these rumours must be to residents of Essex and can assure people there is no substance in them.

We have had some minor incidents of disorder in the Buckhurst Hill area.

Essex Police has a significant number of resources on duty this evening, Monday, August 8, to offer reassurance to residents who are worried by the events unfolding in the capital.

We are working hard to ensure the county remains safe and we have sufficient trained police officers on duty to deal with any situation should it arise.

However, if anyone does see anything that concerns them, particularly any incidents of violence or disorder, they should call 999.

Lakeside have also gone on record to dispel rumours as well stating on facebook

“We would like to reassure our customers that we are open for business as usual. We are aware of the rumours that Lakeside could be a target for looting by a small number of individuals.

“Although there is no confirmed truth in these rumours, we are taking this threat seriously & are working alongside the police to keep up to date on the situation & assess it as it unfolds.

“The safety of our customers and staff is a top priority & we will continue to work alongside the police & act on their advice.”
