Millers outclassed by Lewes

THE Millers suffered a disappointing day at the Dripping Pan on Saturday, well beaten by their hosts in this Ryman Premier clash.

The writing was on the wall for the Millers as early as the second minute when keeper Dave McCartney did well to keep out Michael Malcolm’s dipping free-kick but he was beaten on 11 minutes when Paul Booth broke through and evaded the keeper’s challenge to slide the ball home.

The lead was doubled on 21 minutes when Nic Ciardini got on the end of a decent cross from Malcolm, who was pulling many of the strings for the home side.

He was involved again on 35 minutes with the defence-splitting pass to set up Christian Nanetti, who made no mistake with his finish.

Well in control, the Rooks eased off somewhat after that, though early in the second half Dwayne Lee hit the bar. And that easing proved a bit costly when Reece Morgan nipped in to get Aveley on the scoresheet with five minutes to go.

However, it just meant the hosts upped the tempo a bit for the closing stages and within a couple of minutes they had restored the three goal lead when Paul Booth played in Malcolm and he rounded of a fine personal display with the game’s fifth goal.
