Tilbury Band win silverware with a little Manilow magic

The Tilbury Band has continued their fine run of form on the Entertainments Contest stage this weekend by picking up more Silverware for the band’s trophy cabinet with an impressive result at the Wychavon Festival of Brass in Pershore.

On the back of an impressive 2nd place finish at the Crawley Entertainments contest earlier in the year, the band entered full of confidence whilst being under no illusions of the difficulties of gaining a podium finish at a contest that attracts high quality Brass Bands from all over the UK.

With this in mind, the Tilbury Band knew that their choice of Programme would be the key to their success and under the baton of their new musical director Mr Andrew Austin, started rehearsing an exciting but varied programme which included choreography, dressing up, vocal humour and the world premier of a new arrangement for Brass Band by the conductor himself.

It was however contest day which mattered and playing 3rd out of 10, the band were all well aware that they would have to do something impressive to grab the attention of adjudicator Dr Robert Childs. With a tidy and slick performance the band did just that and after a long wait for results, were awarded 3rd position with principal Cornet player Tim Vinall picking up the award for best soloist for his rendition of “Buster Strikes Back”.

Musical Director Andrew Austin commented,
“I have enjoyed every minute of working with the band since I took on the position in June and another fine result is testament to the amazing amount of hard work that every member puts in each week. Everyone has their own part to play in the band both onstage and behind the scenes and this is ultimately what makes the organisation such a pleasure to be part of.
A special congratulations has to go to Tim for picking up his 2nd Solo prize of the year with a brilliant performance of Buster Strikes Back.”

The Tilbury Band has now received prizes at their last five entertainments outings taking home seven trophies in total.
