East Thurrock Utd 1 v 3 Lowestoft Town
TWO YEARS ago, when East Thurrock played Lowestoft in the Ryman Div One North, many looked at the Trawlermen and asked what they were doing in that league. Last night, it was deja vu as the Trawlermen took the Rocks apart as they look like they continue their inexorable rise.
However, Rocks made a superb start to Tuesday night’s clash with the Ryman Premier table-toppers, grabbing a fine third minute goal and going close to a second.
However, their game-plan and tempo dissipated as the half progressed and once Lubomir Guentchev had smashed home a thunderbolt equaliser, the momentum was with the visitors.
Goals from sub Greg Crane, before the break, and Adrian Forbes in the opening seconds of the second, represented the gap in class and depth of quality between the sides.
East Thurrock battled gamely and kept the Lowestoft defence on their toes, but without ever really troubling keeper Andrew Reynolds – other than a good stop low to his right midway through the second half to keep out a free-kick from Sam Collins, probably East Thurrock’s best player on the night.
