IT WAS quite an emotional night. The borough gathered together to pay tribute to the unsung heroes of the borough. It is also quite a humbling experience to witness how many people give service to the community and expect nothing back.
The sponsors that included Thurrock Council, Petroplus, Lakeside, Econogas, Port of Tilbury and many others were part of a tremendous night.
Below is a ten-minute film of an emotional night and some very emotional speeches.
Well done to all the winners

I was particularly pleased that VIC GRAY was Honoured for CULTURE in Thurrock – his Passion and Dedication is historical here. The selfless efforts he has made over many DECADES is unquantifiable. I knew Vic as a colleague at the old St. Chads School – Tilbury – where he was a legendary Senior Teacher and one of the most respected – ALL of his past Pupils still note that on his name as a Happy Memory who led them well. It seems a great tragedy – and incredibly shortsighted (as usual) – therefore,. that Thurrock Council didn’t, at least, save the St. Chads School Theatre and hand this to Vic as the base and home for THURROCK YOUTH THEATRE. ALL families in Tiklbury know and remember Vic – with only ultimate respect – and that fact would have guaranteed safety and security of the building. I mean that – say what you like about Tilbuiry – but the People are always rock-solid and true to those they really respect and Vic is forever carved into their Hearts as : simply The Best. Thurrock Leaders could learn a lot from him. He is Good and Great Culture personified. A Man for People to be truly Proud of.
