THERE have been well over 100 entries in Thurrock Council’s Love Thurrock photography competition.
Cllr Val Morris-Cook, deputy leader of the council, said: “The response has been good and we’ve decided to extend the closing date by a couple of weeks.”
She added: “I’ve looked over the entries and they’re really rather good. It’s odd seeing Thurrock through others’ eyes.
“The aim of the competition is to not only capture the imagination of the borough but also to show what is great about Thurrock and why we should all love it.
“We want our residents to join us and celebrate what a really great place Thurrock is and somewhere to be proud of.”
The Love Thurrock photography competition is open to all amateur photographers resident in Thurrock and will be judged in three categories.
There are two youth categories (five to 13 year olds and 14 to 19 year olds) with first prizes of a camera and second and third prizes winning professionally printed and framed copies of the winning shots.
For adults (over-19) the first prize is a £250 camera; second £150 cash and £100 cash for the third. This prize is sponsored by The Junction, who own and manage Thurrock Retail Park.
The competition is solely based online with entries made via Thurrock Council’s website front page (www.thurrock.gov.uk) and its Flickr page and more information can be found online at www.thurrock.gov.uk
There is no limit to the number of entries from each person.
The competition launches on Monday, 12 September and now runs until 21 October.
Judging will be done within one week of the closing date.
