Low key police presence at Grays Ath-Tilbury clash tonight

IT IS hardly the Old Firm derby but it has a little bit of a reputation of getting a bit spicy. The last two fixtures featuring the two teams have seen a number of incidents in or near to the ground.

Grays Athletic play Tilbury Town in the Ryman Division One North tonight at 7.45pm at Rookery Hill (East Thurrock United).

Grays Ath have been flying high in the league: unbeaten and five points clear whilst Tilbury are just five points off the play off places. They have blown hot and cold but have a habit of upsetting the favourites. Seeing how many notes, boss Paul Vaughan was taking on Sunday, he clearly looks like he has a plan whilst Grays boss may put the torpid performance against a resolute Cheshunt as just a “heat-thing.”

Essex Police, mindful of previous “skirmishes” have issued a statement.

Laura Anderson, spokesperson for Essex Police, said: “There will be a low-key police presence at the Grays v Tilbury football match tonight, as it is a local derby. We have been liaising with the club safety officer to ensure that the appropriate steps have been put in place to ensure that everyone enjoys the match in a safe environment.”
