PRINCE PHILIP, the Duke of Edinburgh visited the site of DP World London Gateway this morning to give the royal seal of approval on what has been a momentous week for the borough.
Yesterday, the Stanford-le-Hope site announced that it was on track to open in late 2013.
Many visitors breath is taken away with the sheer magnitude of the site which, on completion will be bigger than the city of London.
The ante seems to have been upped as well in respect of the number of jobs the area will bring. For quite a while, the figure stood at 18,000 but now the figure mooted could be as many as 30,000.
The Duke had a helicopter tour of the site and then came down to the edge of the area to see the work for himself. The Prince spoke to staff from all of the organisations working at the development.
Afterwards, he returned to the HQ where a reception involving local businessmen and dignitaries was held.
