New homes on Chafford Hundred site on hold as builders go bust

IT SEEMED quite a sad but timely image. The deserted and rusting building site wasting away.

The site in question is the one on Howard Lane, behind Bannatynes Gym in Chafford Hundred.

The plan was for 153 homes called Thames Square.

It was quite a contentious issue, four years ago as local councillors like Tunde Ojetola expressed their concern that once again homes were being built in Chafford without the accompanied infrastructure.

But it was recently announced in the London Gazette that the builders Thames and County Construction Ltd, formerly Stephen Howard Homes have gone into liquidation.

We understand that the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation (DC) are looking for a buyer.

  1. A stupid place to build flats anyway. I cannot understand how decisions are made at the DC. 153 flats behind a gym, supermarket and an arterial road seemed like a tall order. There are more than enough homes on Chafford already and if more had to be built, it should have been a small development of a few houses not over 100 flats.
