Thurrock T-Birds stormed to the top of the championship this weekend with an convincing bonus point win 31-7 over Hove.
Playing away in wet conditions the T-Birds were always on top in this dogged encounter. Playing against a big pack Thurrock had to dig deep to enable their speedy backs the room to play their special brand of rugby.
England u-20 and 7’s star Emily Scott opened the scoring with a typical mazey run breaching the Hove defence.
This was quickly followed by a whole team effort which resulted in Becky Francis diving in at the corner.
Turning round at half time with the wind at their backs the large travelling support had high expectations.
But Hove had other ideas, keeping the ball within their large pack as tight as possible they trundled up the field eventually crashing over the try line and also converting.
Ts upped the intensity again and never looked out of control. They moved the big pack from one side to another and the cracks appeared. Three more tries followed again. Becky Francis finished off a fine flowing backs move into the corner.
Emma White used pace and power to crash over close to the posts. A break by Kat Emerson fed Mercedes Foy in space who popped to Francesca Jordan to run in from the 22m for the important fifth and bonus point try.
Emily scott converted the last three.
T-Birds next game is at home to Trojans on Nov 13th 2pm ko.
