POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a burglary in Balstonia Drive, Stanford-Le-Hope.
Between 2am and 5.40am on Friday, November 18, suspects forced open an uPVC door, causing slight damage. The keys to a BMW were stolen from the hallway, and the vehicle, worth an estimated £26,000 was then stolen from the driveway.
Investigating officer, Pc Paul Gutteridge, said: “This must have been very upsetting for the victims, to not only to find that someone had intruded their home, but to have their car stolen too.
“Unfortunately, we are finding that a lot of people aren’t securing their keys away or locking their uPVC doors correctly, which is making it easier for a burglar to get in. Please ensure your keys are kept in a safe and secure place out of view of windows and doors. If you have a uPVC door, ensure that you throw the handle upwards and lock it with a key, removing the key. Only then will the door be fully secure, and burglars usually find it so hard to force it that they won’t even attempt it.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Pc Paul Gutteridge at the Basildon CID target team on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
