After the grand finale of the under twelve indoor competition last week, when Belhus clinched the title and Horndon’s Daniel Stone hit six sixes off one over, it was the turn of the U14 event to make an entrance at Grays School. Joe Mitchell had a fine all-round game for Orsett A. He hit 28 not out to help his team to 129 for the loss of two wickets, then held on to three catches to help dismiss Orsett B for 55. Assisting Mitchell in the batting department were Harry Lockyer with 25 not out and Tom Haden, who scored 13. For Orsett B, Jamie Stock and Harry Hearn reached double figures with 13 and 10 respectively. Haden picked up two wickets at a cost of just eight runs.
Bilal Qureshi top scored for Thurrock B with 25 not out, proving that anything his younger brother, Shameer, can do in the U12 event, Bilal can at least match him. Thurrock B reached 98 for the loss of just one wicket, but despite their best efforts they were unable to prevent Thurrock A from reaching their target with just five balls to spare and two wickets in hand. Billy Kirk hit 24 not out for the A team, ably assisted by Charlie Hodge, who contributed 21 runs.
The evening’s final game saw the two Belhus teams in action. Belhus A racked up 105-2 from twelve overs, as Mark Fogg hit a stylish undefeated 26, while Mathew Lewis struck 25 not out and Eathan Morris chipped in with eleven runs. In reply, Belhus B were shot out for 35 after just 6.1 overs as George Maidment took 2-6 for the A team.
