THURROCK III 2 v 3 OLD SOUTHENDIAN V
This was a game which Thurrock should have won but they failed to reach their high standard which has seen them maintain second place in Division 8 SE. After five minutes an attack by Southend was not cleared and a half-hit shot crept over the line from close range. Thurrock worked hard and Michael Fleming collected a pass from Josh Brody and dribbled around the keeper to level the score after 15 minutes. Thurrock had the majority of the play but were unable to convert their dominance into goal with several shots going wide. In the second half Thurrock continued to pressurise the Old Southendian defence and eventually went into the lead from a Jimmy Venus shot from the edge of the area.
Five minutes later a goal-bound shot was stopped by a defenders foot and Thurrock were awarded a penalty. However, Jimmy Venus was unable to add to Thurrock’s lead when his flick was saved by the keeper. This inspired the visitors and they changed their formation to put more pressure on Thurrock’s defence, which produced an equaliser when a shot from the right of the D deflected off keeper Dave Leeks stick and fell kindly for an attacker to level the score. Thurrock pushed forward but left themselves open to a breakaway by Southend and a miss-hit clearance led to Thurrock conceding a short corner which crept inside the post to give the visitors a winning goal in the last minute.
This Saturday the Thirds are home to Old Loughtonian Academy at 11 am
Thurrock Hockey Club’s Mini section played their fourth tournament of the season at Palmers College on Sunday 4th December. The Under 10 and Under 12 boys and girls teams played counterparts from Tower Hamlets, Maldon and Old Southendians. There were mixed fortunes for the Under 10’s, the girls were unlucky to lose 0-1, 0-1 and draw 0-0. The Under 10 boys won all three of their games 1-0, 1-0 and a convincing 5-1 with some really impressive team play and unselfish passing throughout. The scorers for the boys were Alex Farrow 4 , Ben Bridger 2 and Jamie Speers 1.
