Horse dies in field in North Stifford despite help from Fire Service

FIRE CREWS were called to assist in the rescue of a large, 30-year-old horse in Well Lane, North Stifford.

The animal had keeled over at the bottom of its owners’ garden and was unable to get up.

Firefighters used specialist strops and straps to try to lift the animal. But unfortunately the horse did not make it and a vet had to put it to sleep.

“We did all that we could, assisting the vet at the scene. The owner of the horse is deeply upset, she’s had it for 26 years,” said incident commander Assistant Divisional Officer Tony Clark.

The incident was dealt with by 11:30 hrs.
